Buddy,
We use Houchens and have for several years. I have included some photocopied
pages within an issue and even a couple of whole issues that were copied to
replace a stolen issue. If Houchens complained about it, the complaint never
reached me. I did not trim anything.
The bound volumes were fine.
You said you "were told" -- was it by Houchens or someone in your library or
someone else? You would have to be careful that the photocopied part of the
page was all contained on the same part of the page in such a way that it would
line up after it was trimmed with the rest of the printed part of the pages.
