Good morning Kim,
Other than the newly received/current print issues housed on our 1st floor on browse able shelves, most of our bound and loose print issues are housed
on our 4th floor. Many titles aren’t moved to the 4th floor until the next volume starts which is pretty much the same process as when these titles were bound. If the issues can stand on their own on the shelf, no boxes/containers are
used, but awkward sized issues and really thin titles like Spiegel and Time that are stapled are kept in pam boxes or similar to the Princeton files. We put labels on the front, and they are shelved in chronological order with the bound issues by title.
We do the same with our Serial print titles kept at our Offsite Storage space.
We have many cardboard pam boxes to be used for print issues that we are willing to donate to anyone needing some. Some are brand new, and many are gently used
but in good condition. Might need to remove or replace the labels. Please get a hold of me if interested.

Subject: [SERIALST] RE: Binding serials
Hi all,
I’m all for not binding, but I’m wondering what you do with the print issues you’re keeping if you don’t bind them. Do they just sit on the shelf in a pile? Do you put them
in boxes (Princeton files)? What is your shelf management strategy when you need/want to keep the print, but don’t actually bind them?
Thanks,
Kim

Hi everyone,
UConn holds many unbound serials - mostly backlog, as we are down to only a handful of new print receipts. Are your libraries still binding serials? Why or why not? If you do, how
do you decide which serials get bound and which get shelved permanently unbound?
Thanks in advance for sharing your perspectives!
