Description: As libraries continue to transform into data warehouses of patron information, the risk of being hacked has never been so prevalent. Three panelists in the IT profession will present an overview of current cyber threats facing libraries and the challenges of sharing data in a digital age. IT professionals representing federal, public and county library systems will share their suggestions for safeguarding your library infrastructure. Are you an administrator? A library IT professional? Or someone who works closely with user data? If so, this program will leave you with key takeaways to improve your library’s cybersecurity.

Presenters:
Sean Lang, Chief Information Security Officer Library of Congress Prior to joining the Library of Congress, Mr. Lang was the Chief Information Security Officer for the Department of Homeland Security’s Science and Technology directorate where he was tasked with assuring information security for the Department’s research labs. Mr. Lang has also held positions covering most IT security disciplines (e.g., penetration testing, security compliance, and security architecture) in both the private and public sectors. He has also taught courses on secure application development and testing.
