Good afternoon, everyone,
I'm wondering if any other libraries out there who use either Shibboleth or Open Athens or some other SAML-based authentication system, are experiencing errors on Science Direct, Scopus and Embase.
We began to see ATN-13 errors on Science Direct yesterday. Elsevier says it is due to a security patch that they placed on their platforms for SAML-based access, and they didn't know it would be more than a minor disruption, Their resolution has been to ask
all our users to clear their cache and cookies in Chrome and Firefox, for four Elsevier sites. Not an optimal solution to put the onus on library users.
We also suddenly began to experience repetitive pop up messages in Scopus and Embase, asking users to log in with their personalized Elsevier accounts or to register for one. This is occurring after they've already logged in with Open Athens.
This has something to do with Elsevier's implementation of an identity management system called ID+. Users should only have to log in with their Elsevier credentials one time, but unless they do so, they will not be permitted access to Scopus or Embase search
pages.
This was not the previous experience.
I was curious to see if anyone else had been experiencing these Elsevier platform problems.
Feel free to contact me off post.
Thank you very much,
Joanne
