Hi Tiffany,

I enjoyed Li Ma's presentation on E-Resources Troubleshooting.  Could not make it live at the last minute, saw recording.  I was also interested in the June 5th presentation on usage.  Will you also have a recorded session?

Thank you and be safe!

E-Resource Troubleshooting: A Staff Training Strategy (Li Ma)

(Abstract): Troubleshooting subscription e-resource access is a complex task that lives at the intersection of specialized serial subscription knowledge and the convergence of technologies. This presentation discusses the most effective ways to train staff to handle e-resource access issues.

(Presenter Bio): Li Ma is currently the E-Resource & Serial Librarian at Thomas Cooper Library at University of South Carolina. She has extensive experiences in acquisitions, serials and electronic resource management as well as in library system implementation.

NCLA Event Calendar Listing: https://nclaonline.org/event-3842484

Seeing the Forest Despite the Trees - Part 1:  Analyzing the Usage of Databases and Journal Packages (Heidi Tebbe and Danica Lewis)

(Abstract for Part 1): Usage is central to renewal decisions, but the fact that a journal package or database is not one thing, but a group of many things, can complicate a renewal evaluation. In this talk, we will provide an overview of COUNTER statistics; identify the reports that are most useful when evaluating database or journal package renewals; and discuss how to format the data for analysis. We will also demonstrate different methods of visualizing both the group and individual components of a database or journal package.

Seeing the Forest Despite the Trees - Part 2:   Methods for Analyzing Faculty Research Output (Katharine Frazier, John Vickery, and Hilary Davis)

(Abstract for Part 2): Libraries have a wealth of data available to assess journal packages. By digging into publication data, the NC State University Libraries have learned which publishers our authors engage with the most via their publication and editorial work. In this session, we’ll discuss methods for analyzing publication data from Web of Science, including how to download data, identify top publishers, and more. We will also demo a homegrown web scraper that identifies institutional faculty editors. Finally, we’ll discuss how we marry these elements to provide an evaluative strategy for journal investments.

(Presenter Bios):

Heidi Tebbe is the Collections & Research Librarian for Engineering and Data Science at NC State University Libraries. Prior to this position, she studied astronomy, immersive media, and library science at Indiana University, worked as an e-learning media developer, and was an NCSU Libraries Fellow.

Danica Lewis is the Collections & Research Librarian for Life Sciences at the NC State University Libraries. She graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with an MSLIS, and from Knox College with a BA in Biology. Her recent work has focused on data informed collection development.

Katharine Frazier is a University Library Technician in Collections & Research Strategy at the NC State University Libraries. She is completing her MLS at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. She is interested in data analysis, programming in Python, and the intersection of collections and scholarly communications.

John Vickery is Analytics Coordinator and Collections & Research Librarian for Social Sciences at the NC State University Libraries. He is interested in applying analytical methods to library data for better organization in matters such as collections and service optimization. He likes to program in Python, SAS and R.

Hilary Davis is Head of Collections & Research Strategy at the NC State University Libraries in Raleigh, NC.  Her primary role is to provide leadership and direction in the Libraries' overall collection development strategies, and play a leading role in the Libraries' initiatives to support research data management at NC State. She holds an MLS from University of Missouri-Columbia and an MS in Biology from University of Missouri-St. Louis.
