All,
Like Diane at Colorado College, we’ve used Houchen for years (their facility is in Nebraska) and we liked them, but had to switch gears when they were purchased or became part of a larger bindery company last year or the year before. Not
sure whether Melissa’s suggestion about a Canadian bindery will work out but we’ll see.
Some fixes to or added details on what I wrote previously:
- Our initial count of bound journal issues to move into storage was 60,000 but we weeded that down to ~46,000 before the move to save space and money (thanks to my local colleague,
Megan Ruenz for the correction).
- We actually maintain ~350 current print subscriptions but don’t bind all of them so the ~300 figure previously mentioned is probably still accurate in terms of binding.
- Moving bound journals to storage about a mile away gave us crucial breathing room for normal collection growth until we (hopefully) can implement a significant library renovation and
expansion in the next 7-10 years.
- The Dewey to LC conversion project involved ~350,000 monographic items, the majority of our print monograph material.
