Hello everyone,

This is my first post to a listserv. My name is Ryan Reed and I am an associate cataloger at the Boston Athenaeum in Boston, Massachusetts. I am currently training to take over the serials department when our current serials librarian retires. I am reaching out to ask any and all of you about how you deal with collection development. Our serials department subscribes to over 450 serials. I need to assess our current subscriptions and come up with ways we can decide which publications to keep and which we should weed in order to save money. Does anyone know of any recent professional literature on this topic as it pertains to serials, particularly, but not limited to, print materials that are hard to figure out how much they are being used? I need to present a document to our director that lays out how I will go about this and I want to be able to cite some good sources and also connect with some of you experts out there.

Any and all tips, suggestions, and leads to professional articles that touch on these issues would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Ryan Reed
