The Electronic Resources Librarian will support and contribute to learning and discovery by actively participating in the management of the life cycle of Vanderbilt University’s licensed scholarly electronic resources, ensuring continued access through and between all library-supported user gateways.

The Jean and Alexander Heard Libraries at Vanderbilt University is comprised of nine libraries, as well as service departments in collections services, scholarly communications, IT infrastructure, and digital scholarship. The Jean and Alexander Heard Libraries are fundamental to the university’s goal of advancing scholarship and learning. We collect, preserve, and make accessible a wide variety of resources, we partner with faculty and students to shape research, and we encourage the development of informed scholars and engaged citizens. Within Collections Services, the Acquisitions and E-Resources unit is responsible for purchasing, licensing, processing, and providing access to library materials in all formats. 

Professional librarians holding full-time appointments at Vanderbilt University receive one of four academic ranks, assigned, after careful review, to reflect and express the professional status and accomplishments of the individual (Librarian I, II, III, or IV). Duties and Responsibilities

Job responsibilities listed herein are intended to be a thorough representation of the duties, responsibilities, expectations, and qualifications for this specific role at the time of hire but should not be considered all-encompassing as actual responsibilities may evolve to include additional duties as assigned based on organizational and operational needs.

• Proactively and accurately manage technical and administrative changes related to electronic resource access.  
• Resolve problems arising from the use of electronic resources and respond to end-user reported issues with licensed electronic resources in a timely manner.
• Coordinate work with other library departments, database providers, vendors, and publishers to ensure understanding of licensed electronic resources (i.e., library packages, orders, and other entitlements), in order to take appropriate actions to effectively manage these resources.
• Demonstrate leadership by identifying and staying abreast of emerging education and linking technologies, related e-resource and bibliographic standards, interoperability, and other technical issues relating to the acquisition, licensing, access, and usage of electronic resources.
• Participate in the training of other staff to assist in e-resource management.
• Participate in the recommendation and implementation of new approaches to electronic resource management, including presentation to users, facilitating the seamless delivery of information supporting research and learning at all levels.
• Assist in the coordination and review process for licenses and the day-to-day licensing workflow in order to ensure seamless and favorable access to electronic resources. 
• Serve on library-wide committees and working groups to promote electronic resource management best practices and tools. 

Profile of an Ideal Candidate

• Master's degree in Library or Information Science from a program accredited by the American Library Association, or international equivalent, is necessary. 
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of issues and practices related to e-resource access, licensing, acquisitions, use, and management is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a highly collaborative setting, document and solve problems in a timely manner, and prioritize appropriately is necessary.
• Demonstrated proficiency with existing education technologies used to provide access to and between e-resources, as well as office productivity software and the ability to adapt to new technologies as they evolve is preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of electronic resource industry standards, best practices, and protocols, including but not limited to ER Licensing, KBART, SUSHI, COUNTER, ERMI, Project Transfer, and OpenURL is preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of issues related to contract and license interpretation and review is preferred.
• Evidence of excellent communication and interpersonal skills is necessary.
