The James E. Walker Library at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) invites applicants for the position of Chair of Collection Development and Management (CDM) at the rank of associate professor or professor (#401520). Tenure upon appointment
is considered with a publication and service record that meets tenure requirements. The CDM Chair reports directly to the Dean of the Library. This is a twelve month position.
The CDM Chair will work collaboratively with the Dean and the Chair of User Services in achieving the goals and strategies of the Walker Library. The CDM chair will provide leadership for the CDM Department which includes the following
units or activities: Acquisitions, Cataloging, Continuing Resources, Special Collections, Materials Budget, Binding/Book Repair, Discovery Services, Library Systems, and Collection Assessment.
The Chair oversees the evaluation of 10 faculty librarians and 8 library support staff and assures the process of tenure and promotion for the department. The Chair will develop policy procedures and set annual goals for the department
and coordinate the expenditure of a $4 million collections budget that supports the curricular and research needs of the campus. Responsibilities of the chair also include keeping up-to-date on current trends in librarianship, communicating effectively, working
collaboratively across library and campus departments, and representing the Department within the University and broader communities.
Required Education:
ALA accredited master’s degree
Required Related Experience:
Minimum of five years’ experience in an academic library in a relevant functional area.
Minimum of three years’ experience in a leadership role in an academic library.
Other Desirable:
Publication and service record that meets tenure requirements.
