ALCTS webinar: Determining Success of DDA and EBA with Assessment

All webinars are one hour in length and begin at 11 am Pacific, noon Mountain, 1 pm Central, and 2 pm Eastern time.

 

Description: Collection development is challenging for academic libraries, due to the rising cost of e-resources. Over the past 5 years, the Case Western Reserve University Library has been experimenting with new ways to actively address these issues through specific strategic initiatives. We have been successful in reallocating one-time funds to user-driven purchasing initiatives, such as demand-driven and evidence based acquisitions models. Our usage data proves these models are cost-effective and aid in the research process by offering a wealth of content at the user’s point of need. This initiative has demonstrated that small changes can make a big impact and show value to our stakeholders.

Learning outcomes

This webinar will:

-Help participants understand how to implement innovative purchasing models.

-Help participants understand how to assess DDA/EBA and how to make better strategic purchasing decisions.

    -Help participants understand how to effectively communicate the value and impact of collection development and assessment.

Who should attend?  

Librarians and staff that work in Acquisitions or Collection Development. Librarians and staff interested in learning more about EBA or DDA initiatives and how to best measure outcomes.

Presenters:

Stephanie Church is an Acquisitions and Metadata Librarian at Case Western Reserve University and has over 10 years of experience in Technical Services. Her focus is primarily in acquisitions, with a specialization in vendor relations, evidence-based acquisition initiatives, collection assessment, and data visualization.

Liz Bernal has been with Case Western Reserve University for a little over 3 years as the Library Assessment Officer. Previously, Liz was the Associate Director of Information Resources at a small consortium in Chicago where she managed and maintained the electronic resources for three schools and managed the assessment of all functions of the libraries. Currently, she manages the strategic plan for Kelvin Smith Library and works to ensure that the library's value and impact are clearly communicated out to stakeholders. Also, Liz is the lead in research assessment for the library which includes joint partnerships on campus for international rankings and the library's part in the initiative.
