The ALCTS New Membership Interest Group (ANMIG) is seeking speakers to present at ALA Midwinter in Seattle on Saturday, January 26th, 2019, from 4 p.m.- 5 p.m.
ANMIG offers a forum for new library professionals and library school students to network, exchange ideas and discover the opportunities offered by ALCTS.
Presentation topics should be of interest to new library professionals and library school students, and be approximately 10-15 minutes in length. There will be time allowed for questions and discussion.
Suggested topics include:
· Anything you wish you had known when beginning your career as a librarian.
· Biggest challenges faced in your first position, what you have done to overcome the obstacles, and lessons learned for newcomers.
· How to handle your first library job interview; any experiences, advice, etc. for any type of library.
· Parts of your first librarian job that a) library school did not prepare you for or b) were very different from how library school described.
· Advice you would give to new managers/supervisors.
· How you thrive and succeed in your career and professional life.
Presenting during this interest group meeting would be a great way for new/early career librarians to familiarize themselves with presenting on a national scale. The presentations can be less research based and more anecdotal, and do not have to be as long as presentations made elsewhere.
Please send your presentation topic and a brief description to Xiping Liu (
xliu47@uh.edu) and Rachel Turner (
turnerr@binghamton.edu) by Tuesday, November 20th, 2018.
We look forward to hearing from you! Thank you!
