ALCTS webinar: Cutter Numbers and Shelflisting for LC Classification

All webinars are one hour in length and begin at 11 am Pacific, noon Mountain, 1 pm Central, and 2 pm Eastern time.

 

Description: This session will define shelflisting and the use and construction of Cutter numbers for the application of the Library of Congress Classification (LCC) system. The session will cover the concept of “the catalog” in the context of shelflisting, the construction and application of Cutter numbers in both the LCC class number and the item number portion of an LCC call number, and pre-defined and reserved Cutter numbers in Classification and Shelflisting Manual (CSM) and LCC.

Presenter:

Bobby Bothmann (bobby.bothmann@gmail.com) is the metadata & emerging technologies librarian at Minnesota State University, Mankato, and teaches cataloging courses for the iSchool at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Bobby is a member of the Cataloging & Classification Quarterly editorial board and an Americas Regional Council delegate to the OCLC Global Council.
