ENY/ACRL Spring 2017 Conference---Register here!

Tuesday, May 23, 2017--Siena College

Libraries and librarians are essential community partners in connecting people and providing information, services, and support to anyone who asks.  Yet many times we go unnoticed for, or people are unaware of, all of the wonderful things that we do.  Why?  The Hollywood Librarian writer/producer Annie Seidl has quipped, “they have more cardholders than Visa, more customers than Amazon, and more outlets than McDonald’s”, so why do libraries and librarians often find themselves Hiding in Plain Sight?  Please join us at the 2017 Spring ENY/ACRL Conference to explore this theme and the ways in which we are working to bring to light all of the important work that we do.

Speakers include:

-Annie Seidl, MLIS, "Visible Meaning: Notes from a Documentary Film Production"

-Roxanne Shirazi, Dissertation Research Librarian and Assistant Professor at the Graduate Center, City University of New York, “Unseen and Unremarked Upon: The Reproductive Labor of Librarians in the Academy”

-Bernard Van Maarseveen, MLS, Reference Librarian, AskNYPL, "Why don't you just TELL me ... : Divining what public library patrons really want and helping them get it"

Poster sessions, lightning rounds, vendors, conversation, and connecting with colleagues will all be happening as well.

Additionally--a screening of Annie Seidl's The Hollywood Librarian will be shown Monday, May 22nd at Key Auditorium at Siena College.  Screening is at 8:00 p.m. followed by some Q&A with Ms. Seidl.  So grab some popcorn and treats and join us!   This event is sponsored by Elsevier and supported by ASLS, ENY/ACRL, and NYLA,   See the conference registration link on the conference page for registration information to this event.
**copies of The Hollywood Librarian will be available for purchase at both the viewing and the conference.

Attention students!--Gimlet, a sponsor of the conference, would like to donate their two registration slots to students currently enrolled in an information studies program.  This is registration only.  Two people will be drawn at random and notified in late April to confirm attendance.  For additional information and to register for a spot click on the conference registration link on the conference home page.
