We are having exactly the same problems (noticed on 3/23) and I reported it to Gale yesterday.  Our case number is 5869707.    I just experienced the problems you describe with ECCO, but we reported the problem as related to 19 C UK Periodicals.  To me, it looks like the problem is with anything on infotrac.

We are having moderate success by changing the /itweb/ part of the url to /default/

I don’t manage our proxy settings so I am unable to comment on that.  I don’t think it is just the proxy because I had the same problems on campus removing the proxy string from our URLs.

Subject: [SERIALST] ECCO database issues/ do you have a proxy string that is working

Does anyone have a better proxy configuration for the ECCO database?  (We have the latest version of EZProxy.)  Or, is there some OTHER way to make ECCO work as it should?

A professor is having problems with it:

Today, my students had a research assignment requiring them to use ECCO. They complained, rightly, that every time you ask to go to the next page of a selected document, you get a message saying that the database “is not working.” Refreshing the page sometimes works, but this is very annoying.

Is there anything that you can do about this?

Gale/Cengage sent us an updated proxy configuration, but it seemed to have made the problem worse, as the professor reported:

Problem persists. I get to a text, but when I try to go to a second page I get an error message; after a short while, the error message disappears and the page I sought comes up, but there is no reason why I should be getting that error message.

Moreover, our systems administrator, who changed the proxy configuration to what Gale/Cengage recommended said:

I'm concerned about this update because

1. it is so different from the recommended stanza provided by OCLC

2. it removes all the other hosts except one!

but I see that the recommendation comes from the vendor so I've done it.

BUT I changed one thing.

If you have 2 stanzas with the same DJ line, the second stanza cancels out the first.

The only difference between these 2 that they supplied is the URL field, but you are allowed multiple url lines in one stanza,

so I combined them:

Title -hide Gale/Infotrac/PowerSearch Databases

URL http://infotrac.galegroup.com/itweb/mlin_b_bumml

URL http://infotrac.galegroup.com/itweb/nellco_bpll

DJ galegroup.com

DJ readspeaker.com

DJ nelnetsolutions.com

HJ cyberadmin.gofullstack.net

NeverProxy apis.google.com

NeverProxy library.demographicsnow.com

Anyway, can you please help us?

Any help would be appreciated.  Please contact me off-list by emailing me directly at wical@bu.edu

Thanks.
