Coordinator for Virtual Services, Assistant/Associate Professor, Library, 54013

 

Job Description or Duties: The Coordinator for Virtual Library Services, manages a unit responsible for the Integrated Library System (currently III, Sierra) Institutional Repository, Workstation Support, Copyright, Electronic Resources, Web Services, Open Educational Resources and Library Marketing.  The Coordinator for Virtual Library Services provides leadership and guidance on information technology issues and oversees the implementation, management, supervision, operations, planning, security and continuity of the technology resources of the Library which provide access to an extensive range of online information resources. Direct areas of responsibility are the Integrated Library System (ILS), Institutional Repository (IR), Workstation Support and Copyright. Supervisory responsibilities include the Librarian responsible for Electronic Resources, Web Services, Open Educational Resources, and Library Marketing; the Managerial Professional for (ILS) and the Workstation Support Specialist. The Coordinator plays a key role in making the Library a campus technology leader. This is a twelve-month, tenure track appointment with assistant or associate professor rank, depending upon experience. The Coordinator for Virtual Library Services reports to the Dean of the Library and, along with the Coordinator for User Services and the Coordinator for Collection Services, is a member of the Library Management Team.

 

Required Qualifications: ALA-accredited master’s degree or international equivalent in library or information science.

At least two years of relevant experience in an academic library with evidence of broad, in-depth knowledge, skills, and experience with technology. At least two years of experience working with an Integrated Library System. Evidence of successful supervision and management of full time library personnel. Effective interpersonal skills and written communication skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated experience with an Institutional Repository. Strong understanding of issues related to Fair Use and Copyright. Experience with or understanding of Web Services in an academic library, Electronic Resource Management and Workstation Support. Experience with or understanding of the issues involved with Open Educational Resources, and academic Library Marketing. Evidence of the ability to concurrently manage multiple projects, administer systems, troubleshoot computing problems, plan and manage change in the library’s computing environment and act as liaison with other information technology professionals. Ability to work collaboratively and collegially with library and campus colleagues. Ability to work independently. Knowledge of cataloging principles and experience with metadata standards, such as MARC and RDA. Experience with one or more of the following: XML/XSLT, Apache, Linux, MySQL, and a programming language such as PHP. Experience with digitizing and editing images, text, video, audio, and other formats and delivering them on the web. Ability to work toward achieving tenure and promotion. Desire to work with a diverse student population. Ability to converse in a second language.
