Serials folks,
It seems that our usual ways of dealing with discarded serial issues (duplicates, decisions to not keep, etc…) have been drying up lately and I wanted to check with others about any options there may be out there. For many years, we were
able to box up any discarded serial issues and ship them to a vendor and the vendor would cover the shipping. We didn’t have to list the issues or do any handling other than to box them up. A couple of years ago, our vendor decided to stop covering shipping.
I assume the library world has not been buying single issues enough to support the vendor covering the shipping charges anymore, so that’s how it goes. In my search for other options, I have not found any cost-effective alternate solutions. We are not able
to put the time into listing the issues, and the shipping costs make it considerably less desirable to send the issues to the vendor. We would love to make the issues available to the rest of the library community or individuals, but we used to rely on a
vendor to facilitate this for us.
Anyone have suggestions aside from just recycling the issues? Any vendors I should be aware of?
