Hi everyone in library land,

I emailed Tracie Seurer at Auraria since we had recent similar problems with ACS journals. It sounds like they have had similar issues to us, related to a recent server upgrade. In her case, it was a Millennium to Sierra transition; in ours it was a Millennium Release 2011 1.6_5 to Release 2014 SP2.

If anyone out there is on Millennium or Sierra with a recent server upgrade and sudden mysterious problems, please talk to the Innovative Help Desk and tell them to look for the buggy HTTP1.1 code.

Apparently there is buggy HTTP1.1 code baked into some server upgrades; it was supposed to improve performance but causes all kinds of problems such as the accumulation of open ports leading to 503 errors and inability to log into the staff client. Basically your ILS becomes unusable to patrons and staff until Innovative clears the ports. In addition, Illiad and some journal platforms misbehave but with WAM proxy only; direct links behave normally. Innovative has been removing or commenting out that code during upgrades, but lately it seems like they’ve been forgetting to do it. And only some of the techs are aware of this at all. It was a long 3 weeks before we reached the right person at Innovative, who fixed it in less than a half hour.

I’m posting this here because the IUG LISTSERV was taken down; it was replaced by a forum which many people may not be aware of.

Hope this helps somebody out there,

Hello,

The new T&F Online website is not resolving properly with WAM proxy server. The site is almost unusable and browsing volumes/issues impossible. Is any other WAM proxy user having this issue?

We have reported the issue, and T&F is working on it.

Thanks,

We had the same issue and reported it. From our understanding, anyone that is using Atypon will have that roundabout link resolver issue. We’re also having our linkout option present even if the full text is in T & F! It’s very frustrating but supposedly “the norm” now as I’ve seen it on a few of our platforms”

So, I wasn't going to complain, but . . .  when I just tried to locate an article in Journal of Electronic Librarianship (pub. Taylor & Francis), using our link resolver, I got a blank page, then tried a second time and again, a blank page. Third time was a charm. I hope that kink gets worked out, whoever is at fault.

I was just wondering if everybody is happy with the “New and Improved” Taylor and Francis online or if I’m the only one who is complaining
