Position Announcement

 

DESCRIPTION: The Cataloging and Reference Librarian is a task based position as the Loyola New Orleans Law Library continues to move away from departmental division to a more flexible model adaptable to workflow and seasonal situations. This position will be responsible for performing copy cataloging and occasional original cataloging. Library staff and other librarians may assist with cataloging but this position is the primary position responsible for cataloging. This position will also provide reference assistance to patrons at the reference desk and to faculty through the faculty liaison program. Involvement in other projects such as outreach events, LibGuide creation, website management, or work on external committees is also available and can determined by a candidates interest and/or the library’s needs. There may be other duties and responsibilities, which would be developed in consultation with the Director.  The position is as an extraordinary faculty member of the law library faculty.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:   Applicants should possess a J.D. degree from an A.B.A. approved law school and an M.L.S. or the equivalent degree from an A.L.A. accredited institution. Applicants with completion of one of these degrees and substantial completion of the other degree with intent to finish the degree in the near future are eligible and welcome to apply for the position. Applicants should also have at least six months of work experience in a law library; extensive intern/externships would count toward this experience requirement.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  It is preferable that applicants possess substantial knowledge of legal bibliography and legal research techniques in both print and electronic formats; have experience working with an integrated library system and cataloging records; have strong technology skills; demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills; have knowledge of current trends in instructional and educational technologies, and have reference desk experience.

 

Further, successful candidates will be able to show evidence of an ability to meet Loyola University New Orleans requirements for promotion and tenure, including excellence in performing primary job responsibilities, evidence of self-motivation, initiative, professionalism, scholarly productivity, and a commitment to professional and university service.

 

ENVIRONMENT:  Established over a century ago, the College of Law follows the Jesuit tradition of strong academic programs, with an emphasis on justice and service to others. Both civil and common law curriculums are offered, through full-time day and part-time evening programs, including five joint degree programs by the law school and are supported by the law library. COMPENSATION:  Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits are those applicable to faculty of Loyola University New Orleans.
