Sending on behalf of Darci Jones (djones@mercyhurst.edu)

Good Morning –

My library is going to be starting a rather large project focused on weeding bound periodical collections in an offsite storage facility.

Our University is ending the lease with the facility and we simply do not have the room to bring them back to the library.

This makes me nervous, J

-          First is the reduction in University Assets

o   How does one value the collection(s) to be weeded against the value of the entire collection?

§  I feel I need to let University Accounting partners know the dollar figure for reporting purposes.

-          When pulling the materials is it necessary to chop them into bits before trashing? Melodramatic, I know.

Have any of you done a project like this before?

Sincerely,

Apprehensive Library Director

Darci Jones
