National University is seeking a Serials Specialist for the Spectrum Library. The Serials Specialist manages the acquisition of serial publications in all formats (print, microform, and electronic) for the National University Library System (NULS). Maintains the integrity of related bibliographic, inventory, statistical, and fund accounting databases, and the physical periodical and microform collections. Supervises part-time Serials Unit staff.

 

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree, or two-year library science certificate, or equivalent in training and experience required
• Minimum of 3 years of technical services experience, preferably in an academic library, at least one of which must be in the functional area of serials acquisitions required
• Minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience with a culturally diverse student worker population desired
• Ability to understand, identify and distinguish complex bibliographic entities and relationships and to understand and interpret complex rules and procedures. Requires intellectual organizational ability and close attention to detail
• Thorough knowledge of the Metadata Management and Acquisitions modules of one or more library management systems, preferably in an academic environment, preferably one that exchanges data with vendor online ordering systems and with online cataloging systems
• Thorough knowledge of one or more vendor online ordering systems, preferably one that exchanges data with a library management system
• Working knowledge of the MARC 21 Bibliographic format and its application to library cataloging
• Experience with serials acquisitions practices and procedures
• Thorough knowledge of invoice processing
• Working knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting systems
• Working knowledge of MS Excel and MS Word

This is a full-time non-exempt staff position. Minimum starting salary: $16.07 per hour
