Public Services Librarian for Scholarly Communications
The University of Nevada, Reno Libraries seek an enterprising and public services oriented librarian to coordinate
the development and implementation of a sustainable approach to scholarly communications. The successful candidate will collaborate with faculty and staff on a variety of scholarly communications issues including: open access, copyright, fair use, database
and media licensing, and digital preservation. The selected candidate will have outstanding communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills and the ability to cope with the ambiguities of fair use and other aspects of scholarly communication.
We seek a collaborator rather than an expert. An avid interest in the challenges posed by new publishing environments
and technology trends and a desire to problem solve in these areas for the Libraries and its constituents are essential.
Primary responsibilities:
• Coordinate with experts and stakeholders across library departments to create policy and develop training for Library staff on critical issues of scholarly communication
• Develop materials and services to support colleagues and the university community, including LibGuides, instructional materials, social media, and other information tools
• Work with liaisons across subject disciplines to integrate scholarly communications concepts and provide tools they can use with their constituencies
• Coordinate and facilitate outreach efforts to the university community to educate, advise and support fair use in instruction and research and serve as a library resource for university faculty for copyright compliance issues related to fair use, course reserves,
citation management, streaming media, and other intellectual property issues
• Maintain awareness of national and international issues, trends, policies, legislation, and changes that may impact research and scholarly communication
• Provide library instruction and consultations to students and faculty in assigned areas as needed
Required qualifications:
• ALA accredited master’s degree in library or information science.
• Experience working with issues related to copyright, open access, digital repositories, research data or scholarly publishing
Preferred qualifications:
• Experience in an academic library
• Experience developing and delivering services, instruction and materials related to scholarly communications issues
• Basic understanding of current issues and trends in institutional repositories, scholarly publishing, open access, data sharing, and media management
Salary and Benefits:
This is a project based, full-time faculty appointment with full healthcare and retirement benefits. At the conclusion of a two year project, a continuing position may be established contingent upon funding and departmental needs. Salary: $55,000-$65,000 DOE.
TIAA/CREF and other retirement options; 24 vacation days per year; generous sick leave. No state income tax or FICA. Tuition benefits for self and family.
