Head of Resource Acquisitions (full-time, 35 hours/week)

Position Summary: Provides leadership, expertise and
management for all aspects of the acquisition and receipt of print
and electronic library resources.
Essential Responsibilities Include: Manage the work of the
acquisitions staff developing and implementing procedures and
workflows as needed. Plan and implement new initiatives that will
improve service and efficiency. Supervise and evaluate the
activities of the Unit including vendor selection, order placement,
copy cataloging, invoicing, and receipt and claiming for all formats
of library material: print, electronic and audiovisual. Work
effectively with vendors of products and services and with partners
in WRLC libraries.
Assist in developing and managing demand-driven collection building
efforts, including shared e-book plans. Monitor expenditures, vendor
payments, encumbrances, and status of orders. Work closely with the
subject selectors. Develop and deliver statistical and narrative
reports to support collection management needs. Keep abreast of
publisher/provider pricing, practices and trends. Manage the
processing of library material gifts.
Participates, as a professional member in the University Libraries
with academic status, in shared collegial decision making and
planning, including: involvement in committees and special ad hoc
projects; establishment and maintenance of communication with
faculty and patrons in other areas of the university; provision of
information and access to information resources; and contribution to
the library profession and engagement in professional development
activities.
Minimum Qualifications: A Master’s degree is required
(American Library Association Degree in Library Science degree
preferred). A minimum of three (3) years of substantial professional
experience in acquisition of library materials in print and
electronic formats in an academic library with at least one (1) year
of supervisory experience and demonstrated ability to manage
culturally diverse staff. Experience with materials published in a
variety of formats. Experience with an integrated online library
system and major bibliographic utility (OCLC). Experience with
complex acquisitions of library materials.
Knowledge of current trends and new developments in library
technical services. Working knowledge of cataloging practice and
standards including MARC and RDA. Knowledge of core skills,
including e-resources and management, automated bibliographic
systems, serials control and approval plans.
Knowledge of accounting principles with respect to library
acquisitions. Working knowledge of automated library systems,
preferably Voyager. Proficiency with MS Office applications.
Expertise with web resources and standard office software, including
competence in bibliographic and acquisitions data management.
Knowledge of new library management systems. Basic understanding of
licensing and copyright issues
