Cataloging and Metadata Librarian, Library Assistant Professor     
       
The University of Vermont Libraries seeks an innovative and energetic librarian to provide original and complex cataloging for materials across the libraries.  Working collaboratively, this full time faculty librarian position will manage the operations of cataloging, oversee maintenance of records for electronic/print materials, and ensure prompt access to newly acquired resources and timely resolution of access issues. This position requires a dynamic, self-motivated individual who is committed to process improvement and is flexible and forward-thinking. 

The Cataloging and Metadata Librarian will participate in cataloging/metadata operations for all collections: general, medical/health sciences, media, digital (vendor-supplied and homegrown), and special collections.  Reporting to the Director of Collection Management Services, the successful candidate will join the cataloging unit and collaborate with the Serials & Digital Access Metadata Librarian to manage the workflows of central cataloging services and monitor digital access issues. This librarian will motivate and provide guidance to paraprofessional catalogers and will collaborate with colleagues across the libraries to bring knowledge of national and local standards and implement quality assurance processes. With a general knowledge of such topics as metadata interoperability and RDA standards, the Cataloging and Metadata Librarian will contribute to decisions that move the Resource Description and Analysis Services unit and the Libraries into the future.

• Performs original and complex copy cataloging for all formats, including print, non-print, and digital resources - ensuring compliance with national and local standards, such as, MARC, RDA, AACR2, NACO, LCSH, MeSH, OCLC, NLM and LC cataloging and classification practices and other appropriate cataloging and metadata standards;
• Coordinates cataloging/metadata processes, procedures and statistics, participating with library colleagues in developing use of appropriate standards and quality assurance workflows for all collections: general, medical/health sciences, media, digital, and special collections;
• Develops procedures for batch-loading records from vendors and third-party sources and cross-walking MARC and non-MARC metadata between systems;
• Facilitates participatory decision-making among colleagues in the unit, and in collaborative library projects;
• Trains and supervises 1.7 FTE paraprofessional staff;
• Works with the Center for Digital Initiatives, the Dana Medical Library and the Special Collections Department at Bailey/Howe to provide coordinated access to print and digital research content;
• Serves on various library, university and professional committees, and participates in the faculty governance of the University;
• Engages in scholarship and creative activities; performs other tasks and duties as assigned, relative to abilities and experience. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• MLS degree from ALA-accredited program or international equivalent;
• 2 years post-MLS professional cataloging/metadata experience;
• Broad knowledge of cataloging and metadata workflows and services; knowledge of MARC, AACR2, NACO, LCSH, MeSH, LC and NLM classification, and emerging RDA standards; familiarity with standards-based non-MARC metadata schemas, such as, Dublin Core, MODS, MADS, METS, TEI, EAD;
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; ability to work collaboratively in a team environment;
• Scholarly and creative accomplishments and service commitment commensurate with appointment to the rank of library assistant professor;
• Commitment to diversity and inclusion.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Supervisory experience;
• Working knowledge of the Ex-Libris Voyager Integrated Library System;
• Familiarity with digital asset management systems and with preservation metadata;
• Familiarity with cross-walking, normalizing, and transforming xml metadata; knowledge of emerging library technologies;
• Professional experience in an academic library;
• Knowledge of one or more foreign languages; knowledge of rare book cataloging.

SALARY & APPLICATION INFORMATION:

Minimum salary for Library Assistant Professor is $54,014. Generous benefits package includes: TIAA/CREF (or alternative plan), managed health care plan, and 22 days of annual leave. The library faculty is represented by United Academics.
