Jason,
I’m glad you are working in serials — I am biased but think they are the best thing to work with in libraries.
It seems like a lot of serials knowledge simply comes with experience, but nowadays, thankfully, there are some good continuing education opportunities available to help you get up to speed on the kinds of things you’ve been asking on the SERIALST discussion
list. NASIG (website is http://www.nasig.org) is a great place to start, and provides webinars on timely topics. The Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS — website is
http://www.ala.org/alcts/)
also offers webinars and online courses such as Fundamentals of Acquisitions, Fundamentals of Electronic Resources Acquisitions, and others.
I’d also encourage you to seek out a professional organization like NASIG. Membership is affordable ($75/year) and the conference is great. I just came back from the 30th annual conference in Washington, D.C. where once again there was great programming
as well as lots of informal networking opportunities. NASIG is a great, supportive community that focuses on serials and e-resources and is also turning its attention toward ways to better support those working in scholarly communication, supporting institutional
repositories, etc. There is a great mix of experience and interest levels represented.

Subject: [SERIALST] Journal Title Changes
Hi,
I am new to serials, and curious about title changes. For example, we subscribe to Home Healthcare Nurse (holdings are v. 12(2) 1994 - Present). It has changed it's name to Home Healthcare Now.
We keep an access database of all current, discontinued, and weeded journal titles. Is there a consensus and how to treat journal title changes? Do you tend to make a new record for it in your database and keep a separate Home Healthcare Nurse record?
When listing holdings for Home Healthcare Now, would you say 12(2) 1994 - Present, or would you say the holdings are 2015-Present?
Thanks for all your help!
