We also create a new serials holding record in our ILS when a journal does a major title change like this.

We have A-Z and discipline lists of our current periodicals titles on our website.  I make sure to note the new title in parentheses in the old title’s listing and the old title also gets mentioned in the new title listing.  Both have coverage dates included so someone can easily figure out which title they need to look under to find a given issue on the shelves.

Hi Jason,

For title changes, we make a new bibliographic record and add a continuation note to both the new and old records (fields 780 and 785, I believe), so if someone is searching the old title or the new, they will both cross reference.

Also, as far as holdings, we make them reflect the title change. So in this case, for Home Healthcare Nurse it would be 12(2) 1994 – 2014. And for the new title, the holdings would begin with 2015 – present. When someone is using a citation to find a 2015 article, it will have the new title (hopefully), and that is what the patron will be searching, so they would need to see the holdings to this particular title.

I hope this helps.

Daisy

Subject: [SERIALST] Journal Title Changes

Hi,

I am new to serials, and curious about title changes.  For example, we subscribe to Home Healthcare Nurse (holdings are v. 12(2) 1994 - Present).  It has changed it's name to Home Healthcare Now.

We keep an access database of all current, discontinued, and weeded journal titles.  Is there a consensus and how to treat journal title changes?  Do you tend to make a new record for it in your database and keep a separate Home Healthcare Nurse record?

When listing holdings for Home Healthcare Now, would you say 12(2) 1994 - Present, or would you say the holdings are 2015-Present?

Thanks for all your help!
