The Electronic Resources Librarian is responsible for cataloging and metadata maintenance of all Law Library electronic resources and for ensuring consistent, reliable access to all online resources including acquisitions, troubleshooting
and ongoing bibliographic maintenance of electronic resources in a variety of languages. This position reports directly to the Head of Cataloging.
40% Access Management:
-Manage and troubleshoot access to the Law Library's electronic resources by working with database vendors and/or staff from the Law Library, the Law School and other campus libraries.
-Coordinate with campus personnel to activate newly acquired electronic resources and update existing resources.
-Serve as a liaison to database vendor representatives, including but not limited to Westlaw, LexisNexis and Bloomberg Law. Assist Reference and Technology Librarian with management of vendor IDs and distribution of IDs to faculty, staff and students.
-Assist in creation and maintenance of a repository of faculty scholarship and other Law School content, providing links to electronic documents.
-Coordinate vendor demonstrations and training for Law Library and Legal Research and Writing staff.
-Serve as a resource for staff, faculty, students and library patrons with electronic resource questions or problems.
-Maintain an awareness of new trends and developments in electronic resources.
-Other duties as assigned.
40% Technical Services:
-Responsible for acquisition, cataloging (original and copy), and ongoing bibliographic maintenance of Law Library electronic materials in a variety of languages.
-Develop and implement local metadata policies and procedures in consultation with appropriate Law Library and campus staff.
-Keep abreast of cataloging rules and interpretations (particularly regarding the cataloging of electronic materials), Library of Congress subject heading practice and authority control, and both OCLC and local cataloging policies and practices.
-Serves as the back-up for receiving and processing new acquisitions when other catalogers are away.
-Collect, compile and report usage and related library statistics.
-Develop, manage and supervise special electronic resource projects.
10% Liaison:
-Participate in the development and implementation of campus workflow, policy and procedures for access to electronic resources.
-Serve on various Law School and campus committees as appointed by the Assistant Director for Technical Services and Collections.
-Design and monitor workflow of metadata and electronic resources, allocate duties, foster communication among appropriate staff, and provide leadership for the continuing development of metadata and electronic resource control.
10% Professional Development:
-Professional librarians employed by the UW Law Library are expected to participate in professional development activities. These may include but are not limited to: research, publication, continuing education, professional association involvement, and participation
in library, campus, state, or national committees dedicated to the fields of law or librarianship
