Electronic Resources Librarian (FA232z)

George Mason University Libraries is seeking an energetic, detail-oriented individual for the position of Electronic Resources Librarian. This position oversees the management and strategic direction of the Libraries’ Electronic Resources program, working with staff in the Collection Development Department and Technical Services Group to evaluate, acquire, maintain, and market the Libraries’ e-resources. 

Reporting to the Head, Collection Development, the Electronic Resources Librarian:

·         Works with e-resource staff, subject research librarians, and other selectors on the identification, evaluation, and implementation/maintenance of electronic resources.

·         As part of the Collection Development Department, works with staff in the Resources and Collection Management Services Division to facilitate the movement of e-resources through the full spectrum of licensing, acquisitions, cataloging, and marketing and other processes related to electronic resource management.

·         Coordinates with the Libraries’ Digital Programs and Systems Division on e-resource availability; consults on the E-Resource Management System (ERMS) and other systems infrastructures relating to the acquisition, implementation, and maintenance of e-resources.

·         Responsible for coordinating licensing activities with publishers and vendors, including rewrites, considerable contact with vendor/publisher representatives, and negotiation of contract language; as well as training of other University Libraries staff involved in e-resource licensing.

·         Responsible for coordinating e-resource management as well as staying current on developments in electronic products and services.

·         Responsible for development of electronic resource policies, documentation, environmental scanning, and strategic planning.

·         Responsible for detailed tracking and presentation of usage statistics for all of the Libraries’ electronic resources.

·         Participates in meetings and serves on committees of the University Libraries, the University, the Washington Research Library Consortium (WRLC), and the Virtual Library of Virginia (VIVA).

·         Supervises one Graduate Professional Assistant.

·         Performs other duties, as requested, which fall within the scope of the Libraries’ professional faculty. 

Qualifications. REQUIRED:

·         ALA-accredited MLS or ALA-recognized foreign equivalent

·         Professional experience working with electronic resources, ideally in an academic library setting (At least two years strongly desired)

·         Demonstrated knowledge of the e-resource life cycle and electronic resource management best practices

·         Conceptual and practical knowledge of computers, mobile devices, and other information technologies

·         Strong analytical skills and substantive experience using spreadsheets and databases (particularly Microsoft Office products)

·         Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to track complex workflows in an ever-changing environment

·         Aptitude for communicating orally and in writing

·         Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a collegial team environment

·         Strong service orientation and commitment to professional growth
PREFERRED:

·         Experience working with GOBI3, SerialsSolutions, Ex Libris Primo, and/or Voyager ILS

·         Experience licensing electronic resources in an academic library setting

·         Supervisory experience 

Appointment/Benefits: 12-month professional faculty appointment with rank.
