One more suggestion is to set up separate holdings and thus separate receiving records for the different frequencies. I’ve done that before when there are special annual issues for certain titles that don’t relate to pagination or issue numbering of “regular” issues of a journal.

Thanks to all for their suggestions. Unfortunately, I’m not sure if they will work. If we add identifiers like month or season to the publication pattern, then Polaris automatically adds them to the issues it predicts we’ll receive. Changes can only be made within that pattern format and information can’t be added to individual issues that wasn’t set up in the serials holding record. That is, if I include “season” in the pattern, I can’t add a new issue with a “month” designator. I’ve tried doing something like this before (adding a supplemental issue), and the ILS won’t do it. I guess I can always leave “January” and “[season]” off the listing and just go with volume/issue numbers for identification, but we’ve tried to be as completely accurate as possible in the past and I wanted to do that here if possible. I will probably contact the ILS to see if they can offer any options and otherwise try to figure it out.

Julianne,

Alternatively, you could have the pattern set to 5x/year and have the receiver manually enter the season when s/he checks in the issue. Also, you could set the pattern 4x/year with the correct seasons and have the receiver manually enter in the January issue when it comes in. I have worked with records set up both ways when I was a receiver. In such cases there was a “pop-up” or “check-in” note that reminded the receiver to do this when they landed on the record.

I suspect your easiest "reset" would be to make the pattern 6x/year,
and mark one of the issues as "Not published". You can then manually
change the expected issues to whatever you want, and also change the
expected dates.
