ALCTS e-Forum: “ALA Midwinter: Cool Ideas and Take-Aways”
Monday, February 16 and Tuesday, February 17, 2015
Description: What jumped out at you or sparked your interest at the 2015 ALA Midwinter Meeting? Share an idea from a presentation, a tool or technique you want to try, or a useful piece of information that changed your life. If applicable, please share what you are going to do next or how you're going to apply what you learned. Please send one topic per email and put a brief descriptive title in your email subject line. If responding to someone else's topic, leave the subject line the same. Hosts: Felicity Dykas is Head of Digital Services at the University of Missouri--Columbia. Previously she served as Head of the Catalog Department and Electronic Resources Librarian. She tries to pack something into every minute at ALA conferences and meetings: programs, interest groups, meetings, receptions, exhibits, and networking. Luckily, she takes lots of notes, which are necessary for refreshing her memory. She is interested in open access, digital libraries, institutional repositories, metadata, cataloging, and, overall, ensuring easy access to online resources. Emily Whitmore is the ALCTS Continuing Education Assistant. Since the 2015 Midwinter was her first experience with ALA conferences, she tried to attend all events connected to items of interest. Since she has not been able to clone herself yet, this was not possible. Instead, she focused her attention on interest groups, committee meetings, networking, and programs. Her interests include: open access, metadata, public libraries, collection management, and social media in the library. Dates and Times: Monday, February 16 and Tuesday, February 17, 2015 Each day, discussion begins and ends at: Pacific: 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. Mountain: 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Central: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Eastern: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. These discussions are free of charge and available to anyone who wishes to subscribe to the list.
