Head of Technical Services

 

Tenure-track, assistant professor, 12 month position.  Sam Houston State University’s Newton Gresham Library is looking for an innovative and enthusiastic individual to lead Technical Services.  This department selects, acquires, organizes and manages the resources that support the curriculum and research of the university’s students and faculty. The Head of Technical Services is responsible for departmental strategic planning, and collection assessment. The position coordinates the following areas: Collection Development, Acquisitions, Cataloging, Serials, Electronic Resources, Preservation and Digital Resources and coordinates collection development with academic departments; assigns and supervises the work of others. The Head of Technical Services has the responsibility for the overall efficiency of Technical Services, establishes standards, procedures and sets priorities for achieving departmental goals. Participates in administrative meetings to ensure the overall effectiveness of Library operations including development of library goals and policy, planning staff development and budgeting. The position reports directly to the library director. 

ALA-accredited master's degree in library or information science; five years of increasingly responsible professional experience in an academic library environment; significant experience with collection development and acquisition of monographic and continuing resources;

knowledge of cataloging and metadata creation; knowledge of electronic resources management; knowledge of budget process; successful supervisory experience.
