Session Theme
“Dynamic Transformations and Developments in the World of Serials and Other Continuing Resources"
World Library and Information Congress
81th IFLA General Congress and Assembly 15-21 August 2015, Cape Town
The Serials and Other Continuing Resources Section (SOCRS) invites colleagues to submit proposals for its two-hour open session at the IFLA Congress in Cape Town on the theme
“Dynamic Transformations and Developments in the World of Serials and Other Continuing Resources."
The roles, activities and responsibilities of those involved with serials and other continuing resources are changing rapidly. Highly dynamic content
is delivered to end users via traditional digital platforms and also via apps and mobile devices. Global access to information is essential and librarians have key roles to play in publishing and providing access to content as well as in participating in the
creation, transformation and evaluation of resources. How can information providers and librarians ensure resources are created, discoverable, accessible and usable when and where they are needed? How can librarians navigate the myriad choices as we participate
in the many transformations and developments currently underway in the world of serials and other continuing resources? In this session papers will be presented on some of the many developments in the world of serials and other continuing resources and how
librarians continue to rise to the challenges.
We invite papers that address any or several of the following topics:
Open Access
Metrics and assessment
Libraries as publishers
Non-traditional publishing
Institutional repositories
Mobile access, carriers and platforms
Linked data
Text and data mining
New roles for serials professionals
Description and discovery
New acquisitions models
