About the Library

 

The Mary and Jeff Bell Library provides resources and services to assist users with their research and information needs. Over ½ million items are listed in Portal, the online catalog, and many more items are accessible through our electronic resources. Over 200 online databases and 60,000 electronic journals contain scholarly material to assist students in completing research projects or assignments. The Library provides both in-person and electronic reference service, instruction to classes on how to use the Library’s resources, interlibrary loan to obtain items the Library does not own, a media lab for accessing audio-visual material, and over 100 computers for use in research or the completion of course assignments. Laptop computers are also available for use within the Library. Special Collections and Archives houses a wealth of resources focusing on Corpus Christi, the Coastal Bend, and South Texas.  The atrium of the Library contains popular magazines and a selection of daily newspapers.

 

Serials/Electronic Resources Librarian 

 

The Serials/Electronic Resources Librarian at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will provide leadership to the Periodicals Department by establishing department goals; formulating, implementing and reviewing policies and procedures; evaluating and determining department workflow and processes; overseeing and conducting training; supervising and mentoring periodicals staff; and providing assessment related to department activities. In addition, the Serials/Electronic Resources Librarian will provide leadership to the library and the university by working with other library staff to identify, evaluate and select electronic resources in support of the university’s mission; communicating internally with library information technology staff and university contacts, such as purchasing personnel, to ensure the timely acquisition and processing of serials and electronic resources; communicating externally with vendors, publishers, and consortia; reviewing product information, pricing, and contract/licensing information; and providing outreach for electronic resources, including development of training materials and training sessions. In addition, the candidate selected for this position will be responsible for collection development and library instruction in subject liaison areas and will work up to 4 hours per week at the reference desk. As with all professional librarian positions at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, the successful candidate will participate in professional and scholarly activity and will serve on library and university committees.

 

Qualifications

 

Required: Masters of Library Science or equivalent from an ALA accredited program. Two (2) years of experience with serials and electronic resources management in an academic library. Additional education may be considered as a substitution for the minimum experience requirement. Academic library supervisory experience with delegation of responsibility and authority to staff. Knowledge of the acquisitions process for serials and an understanding of the electronic resources life cycle. Current awareness of trends in technology, scholarly communication, copyright, intellectual property, and standards related to serials and electronic resources. Candidates must have effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, strong organizational and time management skills, a flexible and adaptable attitude, and a commitment to customer service.

 

Preferred: Second master’s degree or Ph.D. Experience with integrated library systems, particularly Sierra, A-to-Z journal management tools, electronic resource management systems, web-scale discovery services, web design, networks, and proxy servers, as well as online user aids, such as LibGuides. Ability to collect, analyze, manipulate, and provide meaningful interpretation of data related to serials and electronic resources. Record of scholarly and professional activity demonstrating commitment to advancing the profession.
