Colleagues,
As a follow up: It has been brought to my attention that there are still viable companies that assist libraries with such exercises – especially helpful when the valuation is connected to a disaster event of
some kind, but not exclusively just in such cases.
While I have not used such companies for this purpose, they do exist. The one that I know of personally is Absolute Backorder, out of
Wrentham, MA -
www.absolute-inc.com There may be others, and if so, perhaps
someone will post information about them.
Thanks,
Eleanor Cook

Micheline,
Try also the ACQNET-L archives:

I looked it up as insurance valuation and found some things but didn’t read them all.
Cheers,

Subject: [SERIALST] Insurance Valuation for Periodicals
Our University’s Office of Risk Management has asked us to determine the replacement cost of our periodicals (and books). I have checked the archives and found a few postings about this topic and I found an ARL Spec kit from 1991. The
Library of Congress has a bibliography on its preservation site that has been helpful. I have also corresponded with the Director of American Appraisal Associates, Inc.
However, I was wondering if any of you or your library has done this and if so, how you calculated the value ?
Thanks so much,
Micheline
