z687:
Creating the Future of Technical Services
The online
collection
of white papers
and think-pieces by library technical services professionals
for
their peers and colleagues. http://www.ala.org/alcts/resources/z687
Looking for
something to read while you're waiting for your plane, train,
or
automobile to get you to your holiday destination? ALCTS is
pleased
to announce the latest addition to its white papers
collection, z687.
The first in a series of three articles, “The
P-D-A of It: Chicago Public Library's Patron-Driven
Acquisitions
Pilot, Part 1” examines the experience
of a major
metropolitan public library system partially opening its
purchasing
decisions to members of the public. Authors Andrew
Medlar, Diane
Marshbank Murphy, and Stephen
Sposato explain that PDA (also known
as DDA for
Demand-Driven Acquisitions) has largely been an initiative of
academic libraries, but that with careful planning and
coordination,
public libraries may also benefit from this newer acquisitions
model.
Check back soon for future articles about “just-in-time”
acquisitions, and also about SKOS (Simple
Knowledge Organization System)!
Prospective
authors interested in writing a piece for z687 should see the
Proposal Guidelines for ALCTS publications and suggested
topics list
