When we place a renewal on hold, it is to give us more time to decide if we want to renew or not. For example, if a subscription price increases by 50%, we hold the renewal and check with the bibliographer to
make sure we should renew. This usually occurs after we submit our renewals, so we have to contact our agent to initiate the hold. If we decide to renew, we lift the hold. This works for EBSCO and Harrassowitz.
If you have not paid money to Swets, you should be ok. Everyone in the industry knows what is going on. If Swets does not recover from this, you can bet the publishers will send their invoices right to you. For
your bigger packages, you might want to be proactive and contact them now.
Good luck!

Subject: [SERIALST] Swets
If a library has not paid their 2015 prepayment, but has “approved” renewals for 2015 in the online system, are they obligated to pay those subscriptions? It seems if Swets can’t fulfill their part of the contract, no, but when do we know
when that is clear? Swets has placed our subscriptions on “hold”, but what does that mean?
