Digital Legal Resources and
Systems Librarian
Librarian I
The University
of Maryland Carey School of Law, Thurgood Marshall Law Library seeks a
highly motivated, creative, professional to serve as Digital Legal
Resources and Systems Librarian.
Reporting to the Acting
Director of the Law Library and working closely with the Resource
Acquisitions & Metadata Services Librarian, this position will provide
support for integrating resources, participate in the implementation and
maintenance of a next generation library system, and engage in assessment
of library practices and procedures.
Essential
Functions:
· Monitor, recommend and implement new
and emerging library applications, knowledge systems and academic
technology.
· Assess integrating resources
and digital legal resources and services, including reviewing site
licenses and securing and analyzing usage statistics.
· Resolve access problems and coordinate with the Digital
Systems and Stewardship Division of the University of
Maryland.
- Lead and represent the Law Library in
the adoption and technical integration of new University System of
Maryland and Affiliated Institutions (USMAI)
discovery tools and
coordinate metadata policy to ensure overall
completeness, accuracy,
and currency of library collection records for all
formats.
· Prepare annual statistical
reports on behalf of the Law Library to submit to the American Bar
Association and other accreditation boards.
· Provide reference assistance to faculty, students, staff
and other Law Library patrons at the User Services Desk.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Masters Degree in
library or information science from accredited school.
· 1 year related experience.
Preferred
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of standard and emerging
cataloging principles and metadata schemas.
- Familiarity
with digital legal resources and services.
· Prefer
experience managing projects in library applications, electronic serials
and
new/emerging technologies.
· Prefer law
library experience, or experience with both print and electronic legal
materials, or a Juris Doctor degree.
Knowledge, Skills
and Abilities:
· Working knowledge of SFX, EBSCO
A-Z, or experience implementing a knowledge base.
· Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication
skills, including the ability to work independently and in a team
environment.
· Ability to develop and foster
partnerships with both internal and external entities.
· Strong service orientation.
· Ability to multitask, set priorities, and complete tasks in
a rapidly changing environment.
· Prefer
reading or bibliographic knowledge of German, Italian, Spanish or
French.
Salary and Benefits:
· Salary is competitive and commensurate with the stated
minimum qualifications for a
Librarian I, and a comprehensive
benefits package is available.
· The position is a
12-month library faculty appointment. The successful candidate will be
expected to meet library and university requirements for permanent status
and promotion.
