The Long and Short of E-Book Short-Term Loans

The e-book model of patron-driven/demand-driven acquisitions is widespread in libraries today.  An emerging component of this model is the ability for libraries to pay a percentage of the price for a finite number of short-term loans, or uses, of the book before actually purchasing the title.  Recent discussion on many sites has highlighted the strong concern on the part of both librarians and publishers about the sustainability and pricing of new e-book models, including PDA/DDA short-term loans, and has called into question the future of traditional scholarly monograph publishing.

This session provides an important opportunity to hear from the library, publishing and e-book vendor sectors and to be involved in a constructive conversation on this hot topic.
