Serials and E-resources Description and Access Librarian

 

The University of Colorado Boulder Libraries invites applications for the position of Serials and E-resources Description and Access Librarian.  This is a tenure stream position reporting to the Director of the Metadata Services Department.  The Serials and E-resources Description and Access Librarian manages the operations and serves as head of the Serials Cataloging and Receiving Unit. This position coordinates the operations of the unit, contributes to the maintenance of the Libraries’ ERMS and knowledgebase, assists with data loads for e-books, and works collaboratively to resolve complex access issues for print and electronic resources.  This position performs original and complex copy cataloging of serials in a variety of formats and languages, creates records within the framework of the CONSER program, and serves as the Libraries’ liaison to CONSER.  

 

The position includes significant responsibilities for research, creative work, and service in keeping with the tenure standards of the University of Colorado Boulder.

 

Requirements:

Please address each of these qualifications in your application materials:

·         Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent advanced degree

        At least three years of increasingly responsible and relevant professional metadata/cataloging experience

        Demonstrated knowledge of trends and best practices in metadata provision

        Demonstrated working knowledge of cataloging rules, standards, and tools such as MARC, RDA, AACR2, LCSH (and other controlled vocabularies), FRBR, FRAD, and of developments and trends in the field

        Demonstrated knowledge of PCC (NACO and CONSER) standards

        Knowledge of evolving metadata standards and schema (e.g., BIBFRAME, Dublin Core, EAD, TEI)

        Demonstrated ability to provide strong leadership and management while working collaboratively in an environment of continuous change

        Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

        Potential for research, scholarly work, and professional achievement

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Evidence of any of the following will enhance a candidacy:

·         Experience with a national cooperative cataloging program such as PCC (NACO, BIBCO, SACO, or CONSER) and OCLC Enhance

·         Supervisory experience, preferably in an academic or research library

·         Demonstrated ability to manage and complete projects

·         Bibliographic knowledge of one or more non-English languages

·         Demonstrated experience with a variety of materials or formats

·         Demonstrated initiative investigating new ideas and implementing change

·         Experience using technology to facilitate innovative ways to provide access to library collections

·         Experience with OCLC and a substantial level of experience with integrated library systems, preferably Innovative Interfaces’ Sierra

·         Experience with non-MARC metadata schemas (e.g., Dublin Core, EAD, VRA Core, METS, MODS, PREMIS, RDF)

·         Demonstrated ability to train others to catalog or other instructional experience

·         Knowledge of tools to transform and/or crosswalk metadata

·         Evidence of achievement in research, scholarly work, and professional achievement

 

Appointment: 

The successful candidate will be appointed as a full-time (12 month), tenure-stream faculty member.  Depending upon professional experience and demonstrated accomplishments in scholarly activity, creative work, and service, appointment may be made at the assistant professor or associate professor level.  Benefits include 22 working days of vacation; 10 paid holidays; liberal sick leave; excellent University group health care plans; group life insurance; TIAA/CREF, Fidelity, or Vanguard retirement/annuity; and support for scholarly/professional activities.  Tenured faculty members are eligible for sabbatical leave.
