Serials Librarian
Western Carolina University’s Hunter Library seeks a Serials Librarian to provide leadership and professional expertise in the selection, acquisition, assessment and deselection of print and electronic continuing resources. The position
will establish overall priorities for the library collections budget in cooperation with the Collection Development Librarian, the Electronic Resources Librarian, and the Head of Content Organization and Management and be responsible for the ongoing expenditure
and maintenance of the continuing resources budget in conjunction with the Electronic Resources Librarian. The position will develop continuing resources collections in close cooperation with library subject specialists and teaching faculty. Other responsibilities
include supervising two full-time and one half-time staff members; coordinating ordering, payment, receipt, and holdings maintenance of continuing resources; working with publishers, vendors and subscriptions agents; and collaborating with the Western North
Carolina Library Network on continuing resources issues. The successful candidate will be professionally engaged, forward-thinking, collegial, and demonstrate the ability to initiate and complete projects in a timely and independent manner.
This twelve month, tenure-track position reports to the Department Head for Content Organization and Management. Library faculty are highly engaged in library planning and policy-making.

The Library
Hunter Library has a long, respected record of providing excellent service to the university and region. The library is dedicated to the thoughtful integration of print and digital resources and to supporting and developing the general,
information, digital, graphic, and visual literacy of students and the teaching and research needs of faculty and staff. The library has 20 tenure-track faculty members, 29 staff members, and an annual budget of over $4.2 million. The library offers approximately
2.6 million items of intellectual content, including print and electronic titles and volumes, and provides access to more than 45,000 journals through print subscriptions and electronic databases. The library is an active partner in the Western North Carolina
Library Network, NC DOCKS, and the Carolina Consortium.
Salary and Benefits
Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications. This is a twelve month, tenure-track position with a generous 24 days of vacation leave annually.
Required Qualifications:
MLS from an ALA accredited program; demonstrated mastery (through experience or coursework) of current continuing resources concepts, trends and practices; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; strong analytic and problem-solving
skills; ability to work collaboratively with colleagues; potential to meet the library’s requirement for scholarship and service.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with: managing continuing resources in an academic library; budget administration; creating, interpreting, and analyzing data and reports for use in collection management decision making; working with publishers, vendors and
subscription agents; III Sierra; EBSCO’s suite of serials management products; negotiation of license agreements; and consortial purchasing arrangements. Supervisory experience. Familiarity with the serials industry, collection development and scholarly
communication issues and current library technologies.
