The Mississippi State University Libraries provides their communities of users an ongoing, creative and technologically advanced library program. The MSU Libraries seeks applicants for the faculty position of Assistant Professor/Acquisitions Librarian. This tenure track position collaborates with relevant personnel and units in order to provide leadership and vision for the Library's Acquisitions department. This position reports to the Coordinator of Electronic Resources.
The Acquisitions Librarian will be responsible for establishing staff and unit goals for monographic acquisitions; supervision of the monograph acquisitions unit, including the supervision and training of two staff members and student workers in ordering, receiving, and invoicing monographic materials; manages and provides reports for annual departmental monographic allocations; instructs library liaisons in the use of a locally created book request system (Book Orders Online), and YPB's Gobi selection system; reconciles various monograph acquisitions spreadsheets to ensure expenditures are correctly charged to university accounts; works collaboratively with other librarians to create solutions to work flow problems; assists the Associate Dean for Technical Services in collection development activities; meets library and university requirements for promotion and tenure in the areas of librarianship, research, service and collegiality.
Required qualifications:
Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program with up to three (3) years of relevant library experience, including at least one (1) year of experience with the management and access of monograph resources in print and electronic formats.
Preferred qualifications:
Academic library experience; supervisory experience; additional graduate degree; experience with the acquisition module of the SirsiDynix Symphony integrated library system; knowledge of cataloging (print and electronic) and MARC formats; and experience with spreadsheets and databases, preferably, MS Excel and Access.
