The University of Missouri Libraries seek qualified applicants for the position of Acquisitions and Collection Development Librarian. Reporting to the Associate Director for Access, Collections and Technical Services, the position leads the Acquisitions and Collection Development Department serving the Libraries and their users.

 

About the Position:  The Acquisitions and Collection Development Librarian serves as head of acquisitions and collection development activity for the campus libraries. He or she will supervise licensing, vendor relations and ordering for electronic resources, serials, and other materials, and have oversight responsibility for accounting and budget allocation for the $7M materials budget, including analysis, statistical reports and financial reports related to online and print acquisitions. He or she directly or indirectly supervises 8-10 staff members. Duties will include coordination with subject librarians and other selectors on selection matters, coordination with the technical services areas of the Health Science and Law Libraries, liaison with interlibrary borrowing and lending units, cooperation with the University of Missouri System Procurement Office, and representing the campus libraries in acquisitions and collections meetings of local, state and regional groups. All librarians are expected to be professionally active and participate in campus service and activities.

 

Compensation:  Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

·        Master’s degree from an American Library Association accredited program

·        Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work as a member of a team

·        Demonstrated supervisory expertise and success promoting teamwork, with the ability to foster collaborative relationships and provide creative and dynamic leadership

·        Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skill

·        Knowledge and experience in collection development principles and process

·        Library experience including knowledge of integrated library systems

·        Experience with fiscal management principles and advanced skill in Excel

·        Knowledge  of the domestic and foreign book and serials trade

·        Demonstrated participation in professional activity, such as presentations, publications, or other professional development that will enhance the candidates’ value to the MU Libraries, the university, and the profession of librarianship, or the scholarly community.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

·        Second master’s degree

·        Experience with a variety of  library systems including Innovative Interfaces and Serials Solutions products

·        Experience with vendor negotiations and electronic products licensing

·        Experience in library technical services

·        Experience with gifts processing and library development

·        Experience  in working  with library  consortia
