As Judith points out, The Chronicle of Higher Education does provide a way for this to happen that is tied to an institutional campus wide subscription.
We had the same question regarding our online subscription to The Chronicle of Higher Education from our faculty. At this time the institutional license does not allow access via mobile device apps. If the faculty member wants it as an app on their iphone (etc.), they need to get their own subscription. They can, however, open a web browser, go to the Chronicle’s site and sign in under our institutional umbrella and get access to the content.
The license for the online subscription or a call to your jobber/publisher really helps define what can and cannot happen with these subscriptions and mobile devices.

I would suspect not if they are the “popular” magazines. Typically those publishers provide those for the intent of the individual user, not a library accessible model; however, if it is an academic publication, they very well may have a mobile app that is available to access their publications. You’d need to check the license and/or the publisher’s terms of use.

Subject: [SERIALST] Magazine apps
Hello all,
I am passing along a question that has come up from Ipad users. How do you handle print subscriptions that include the opportunity to register the app on an Ipad or Android device? Can you hand out passwords to patrons who want to have a magazine app on their mobile device?
Thanks!
