Subject: [SERIALST] Money back?
Has anyone ever had a vendor sell you a product you don’t need? If so, what did you do about it? Did you ask for money back?
You mean like those scoundrels with the directories? Who make a point of speaking to staff who are NOT responsible for ordering (sometimes desk clerks, or sometimes administrators, who can be equally clueless) and implying that the product is already on order, ask them merely to “confirm address information,” and interpret that confirmation as acceptance of the product?
If so, you’re better off refusing to pay for it. If you’ve paid, good luck getting your money back. (If you haven’t already done so, warn your entire staff about this scam, and tell them to watch out if they’re asked to “confirm the library’s address”!)
Vendors might have a return policy, with a time limit, if you’ve actually made a mistake or are dissatisfied with the content, but that’d be up to the vendor. My assumption would be, if we asked for it and got it, we’re probably stuck with it. SW
