1. I copy the discrepancy for training purposes
2. I use the “what they meant” approach – meaning I tend to check it in as what is supposed to be (especially if it conflicts on the piece itself – i.e. cover and inside)
3. I typically put an internal note indicating the error and sometimes correct the piece itself if it will be shelved incorrectly with the obvious information

This raises a question for me I thought I’d pose to the list members who do (or manage) check-in:
When receiving a misnumbered/misprinted issue, do you: a) check it in as what it’s printed as; b) check it in as the “correct no.”; c) delete the enumeration for check-in purposes and use only the chronology; d) other?
We originally started with a), then corrected the numbering if the error was confirmed and/or subsequently corrected (that doesn’t always happen), but now we tend to use option c) whenever possible because it’s more efficient.
Thanks for any and all thoughts or comments.

Current issue of The Nation is printed v. 294 nos. 27 & 28. It’s a printing error; should have been v. 295 nos. 1 & 2.
Thanks to Angie in their Customer Service office for her prompt clarification!
