I also noticed that American Medical News (http://www.ama-assn.org/amednews/) doesn't seem to have migrated to the new platform…

I don’t know if this has been a problem at your institution, but we do not feel we received timely and clear notification that JAMA was changing platforms resulting in a cutoff of access (with no redirect.)  We use SFX and therefore lost all access until we manually updated the URL.

I have included the e-mail that was forwarded to me.  Several of my colleagues on another list have stated that they did not realize the JAMA Network was a platform change and not a social media initiative until they really looked at the e-mail.  The subject line does nothing to convince you of the message’s importance.

I have written an e-mail of complaint to the sales director and our account rep, which you may also want to do.

Also, if you can’t read this e-mail on the listserv, the web link for it does not work.  I missed that in my letter, but there’s some ammo for you.  J

LIBRARY NEWS

REMINDER – The JAMA Network Website to launch Monday, May 14th

The AMA is pleased to announce that JAMA and the specialty Archives Journals will launch on Silverchair's SCM6 platform on Monday, May 14, 2012, as The JAMA Network. The new site will offer fully integrated access to the research, reviews, and perspectives shaping the future of medicine.

Next week, when jamanetwork.com is live, we will send out a link to detailed instructions on how to access usage statistics and use the other tools and features on the Institutional Administrator Dashboard. In the meantime, please be assured of the following:

1.        Access to content and usage statistics—We will do our utmost to ensure that your access remains uninterrupted during the transition. After the transition, site license customers will see their institution's name in the upper right navigation bar. This is your indication that everything has migrated successfully. If your institution's name does not appear, please contact an AMA representative.

2.        COUNTER reports and other usage information—All historical reports will migrate from HighWire, and will be available at launch. We think you'll find that the new reporting interface is much more intuitive, and user-friendly. To acquaint you with the system, we are planning a webinar and will provide a user's guide. Stay tuned for more details on dates and times.

3.        Open URL —All server links and link text will migrate to the new platform. We have taken precautions to ensure a seamless transition, but we also understand the complexity of many library systems and are happy to address your concerns.

4.        Proxy Servers and Firewalls—If your institutional authentication system uses a firewall/proxy server that contains specific entries for approved websites and their specific IP addresses, you will need to update those entries at the time of migration. URLs and IP addresses for the new site are included here. We recommend that you use the URLs to reduce the need to maintain IP addresses. The new site is scheduled to go live onMonday, May 14th—please be sure to confirm that the new site is live before making the switch.
