I agree with you, Melissa, and I know several other librarians do as well..
I went back to find this in my Inbox; I too missed the message and its importance.
Normally, I prepare well in advance for platform migrations, but this one caught me completely off guard. Fortunately, we were able to update the urls in our proxy immediately. However, making an announcement to our users the day of the platform migration is not an efficient way of preparing them for the change.

Subject: [SERIALST] JAMA URL change - no redirects
I don’t know if this has been a problem at your institution, but we do not feel we received timely and clear notification that JAMA was changing platforms resulting in a cutoff of access (with no redirect.) We use SFX and therefore lost all access until we manually updated the URL.
I have included the e-mail that was forwarded to me. Several of my colleagues on another list have stated that they did not realize the JAMA Network was a platform change and not a social media initiative until they really looked at the e-mail. The subject line does nothing to convince you of the message’s importance.
I have written an e-mail of complaint to the sales director and our account rep, which you may also want to do.
Also, if you can’t read this e-mail on the listserv, the web link for it does not work. I missed that in my letter, but there’s some ammo for you. J
