Library Director – World Learning SIT Graduate Institute/SIT Study Abroad (Brattleboro, VT)
SIT’s librarian integrates electronic library resources and digitally based user services into the learning and teaching environments of the organization. The person in this position develops and coordinates library technology-based operations, services, and projects; uses traditional and emerging technologies to enable the library to deliver innovative and student-focused access and reference services. Responsibilities include overseeing the administration of ILS functions; maintaining and coordinating the library website and other digital resources; and improving and expanding user access to digital resources and services, including e-reserves, e-books, e-journals, subscription databases, web resources, archival collections, and instructional materials.
The SIT Librarian oversees cataloging and ensures access to and maintenance of records and links to electronic resources; performs original, complex cataloging as needed; manages, upgrades and troubleshoots technology problems with IT; and collaborates with deans and faculty members on library, intellectual property and thought leadership projects.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Increasingly globalize and virtualize SIT’s collections; promote, plan, and deliver outreach for library’s electronic tools including emerging social media
- Continue developing the comprehensive cataloging of SIT’s 65 remote library collections worldwide
- Build e-book collections at every international SIT program site to foster cross program and cross regional access; inventory SIT’s unique collection of books and documents worldwide and catalog its one-of-a-kind compendium of local knowledge collected by SIT’s international faculty members and students
- Manage all aspects of the library catalog, including circulation, cataloging, and OPAC customizations;
- Create and manage library e-subject guides (LibGuides)
- Supervision of library paraprofessionals; management of Brattleboro campus library facility
- Budget management
- Manage library’s A-Z journal list, Open URL linker, and federated search product
- Provides training in use of library resources/services both in person and virtually
- Manage the SIT Digital Collections institutional repository; capture and archive videos and podcasts of guest speakers and lecturers; create research pages for SIT Graduate faculty and SIT Study Abroad faculty; gather and disseminate research from SIT Study Abroad lecturers
- Direct the Faculty Innovators’ Program: iPads for Educational Innovation and Global Access project
- Work with outside vendors to further develop mobile library apps that facilitate field-based research, resources identification and data collection
- Manage library webpage using Red Dot CMS and library web 2.0 aspects
- Utilize emerging social media to promote the library and provide outreach out to library patrons
Qualifications:
- Masters degree in Library (& Information) Science/Studies or Librarianship from ALA-accredited institution required
- Five years experience in a higher education environment; at least three years in distance/distributed education environment or virtual library center
- Experience with supervising and managing staff, budgets and resources and with setting up and configuring library/information systems; digital library development
- Experience with integrated library systems, link resolvers, remote authentication, and learning management systems
- Knowledge of web page development and trends in library technologies, social media, and web applications
- Knowledge of cataloging and user access needs in a digital environment, including OCLC Connexion and metadata standards (e.g., MARC, RDA, Dublin Core)
- Familiarity with reference and information literacy instruction in a digital environment;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office;
- Excellent written communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment
- International experience preferred
