ALCTS webinar: Effective Subscription Management and Alternatives

All webinars are one hour in length and begin at 11am Pacific, noon Mountain, 1pm Central, and 2pm Eastern time.
Description: Libraries are facing opposing pressures of reduced budgets, patron demand for new content, and increasing costs. This webinar will present a method to collect and analyze cost and use data to evaluate your journal collection (including how to analyze that Big Deal). The presenters will discuss a variety of alternatives to subscriptions to enable patron access to needed content. Presenters will also discuss how to effectively communicate journal access changes with faculty.
Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this session, attendees will have learned a method to evaluate journals in the library's collection and alternatives to subscriptions, in the event of cancellation or a decision not to purchase.
Audience: All levels of library staff with responsibilities for acquisitions and collection management
Presenters:
Deborah Lenares is Acquisitions, Serials, Resource Sharing, and Collection Manager for the Sciences at the Wellesley College Library. She has experience in both corporate and academic libraries where she has migrated the collections and services from print to web based. Deborah has a B.S. in Chemistry and a Masters in Library and Information Science. Her interests as a librarian are ebooks, handheld reading devices and evidence based management of library collections.
Steve Smith is the manager of the collection management and preservation group at the Wellesley College Library. He is active in many professional groups and library consortia, particularly the Boston Library Consortium and the Oberlin Group, and is an adjunct faculty member at the Simmons College GSLIS
