Periodical Radio is a series of 34 interviews with editors
of magazines and journals conducted October 2006 through July 2009. Although I’d
originally intended Periodical Radio to continue indefinitely, it’s now a
completed series.
Transcripts and mp3 files of all the interviews are at http://faculty.strose.edu/blacks/PeriodicalRadio.htm.
This page includes a PDF file that compiles the transcripts of all the
interviews (287 pages worth!). Of course I’m biased, but I believe the
interviews are a valuable set of primary source material about magazine and
journal publishing during the transition from print to online. If you think
your patrons might benefit from a hard copy, please go ahead and print one out
for your library. The PDF includes a copyright statement that explicitly encourages
that. Copying the PDF to your home server is also fine.
A summary of the interviews is published in “Editors’
Perspectives on Current Topics in Serials,” Serials Librarian
57(3), Oct. 2009, p.199-222. http://www.informaworld.com/smpp/content~content=a915325642
. I’m embarrassed to say that all the URLs cited in that article are dead.
But the cited interviews can all be found at http://faculty.strose.edu/blacks/PeriodicalRadio.htm.
