Librarian I - Metadata Cataloging Librarian

Job Summary:  Texas A&M University-Kingsville seeks a service-oriented librarian -specialist to manage the Library's cataloging/metadata unit, and to serve as technical manager of the Library's state and federal depository programs. The position supervises two full-time positions and works in concert with other Library units. This full time, faculty position reports to the Head of Technical Services. Position will remain open until filled. Provide excellent customer service  

 

Job Responsibilities: The Metadata Cataloging Librarian manages descriptive and subject access to print, media, and digital materials using current cataloging and metadata standards, and provides guidance and advice on cataloging and metadata procedures. The position will be expected to review work-flow and suggest appropriate changes, ways and means of managing digital collections, manage authority control, and generally supervise and maintain the quality of the catalog. The position will stay abreast of trends in metadata and cataloging, investigate and recommend solutions for special projects, and supervise technical aspects of the Library's federal and state depository programs. Participate in Library-wide activities, including committee work and occasional reference desk duty, including occasional weekend duty.   Minimum Qualifications: Education: MLS or equivalent from an American Library Association accredited program from a regionally accredited institution or university required.

Minimum Qualifications: Demonstrated knowledge of current metadata and cataloging standards and tools such as Dublin Core, AACR2-R, LCRI, LCSH, MARC formats, EAD, and RDA. Familiarity with the technical aspects of government document depository programs. Experience with integrated library systems, bibliographic utilities (OCLC) and other computer-based resources which support cataloging operations, as well as word processing, spreadsheet, and other standard office software.  

Preferred Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications: Three years professional experience in cataloging, metadata, or management of government documents. Knowledge of database management, search engines, HTML, XML, MARC, and related tools and technologies. Knowledge of FDLP, Marcive, SUDOCs and other documents tools/resources. Strong written and oral communication abilities. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills. Ability to effectively supervise, train, and motivate staff.   Special Instructions To Applicants: Minimum Salary: $42,000. Competitive benefits package. Position is a 12-month, non-tenured faculty appointment as Librarian I.
